Joshua was an unwilling slave in Egypt who became a willing servant to Moses. As Moses’ minister, he experienced many moments others did not have. When Moses died, he became the new leader of God’s nation. He led the Israelites into the Promised Land, conquered the Canaanites, and divided the land to each tribe.

 

These letters illustrate highlights of Joshua’s life

“J” - Joshua served beside Moses as he led God’s people through the wilderness. Then Moses sent him to lead the battle against Amalek while he held up the rod of the Lord.

“O” - Joshua approached Mt. Horeb and waited for Moses. Joshua was one of the 12 spies.

“S” - “Be Strong” was the message Moses gave Joshua. They crossed the Jordan following God’s instruction. Then the Commander of the Lord’s army gave Joshua instructions on how to take Jericho.

“H” - Jericho was the first city taken. In order were armed men, seven priests with seven horns, the ark of the covenant, a rear guard. One time around the city each day for six days with only the sound of the trumpets, then seven times the seventh day, then the trumpets and shouting.

“U” - When five Amorite kings gathered together against Gibeon and against Joshua, God fought for the Israelites and even sent stones from the sky as the Amorites fled. Then he made the sun stand still so Israel could completely defeat the Amorites.

“A” - Joshua divided the land; his farewell address
