The New Testament church did not have a written Bible. So Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to give man spiritual gifts. These gifts enabled the early church to know how to live, how to worship Him, and everything else God wanted them to know.
The very fact that the Godhead chose spiritual gifts makes them important to understand. But the age of miracles has passed. Today, the church needs to understand that faith, hope, and love surpass the miraculous gifts of the early church.
