The preacher is one of the most misunderstood "things" in the religious world. Some consider him in charge of the church and want to give him special titles to wear. Others refuse to abide by God's rules in gender and role for the preacher. Just who is this person and what is his job?

This visual uses contrasting choices to teach children the proper view of the preacher. Pieces include:
Man/ Woman
In charge/ not in charge
Pastor, Reverend, Father/ no religious titles
Visit the sick, do funerals and weddings, do the bulletin/ Preach the Word

Continue the lesson by teaching students what they are supposed to be doing while the preacher is doing his job of preaching the word. These pieces include
The preacher preaches the Word; we think about the Word and a hand "counting", a tally sheet, and a Bible. Youngest students can be taught to listen for a specific word in the sermon and to hold out a finger every time he hears the word; older students can be taught to make a tally mark on a paper every time they hear a specific word. And of course, those old enough to read to learn can follow in their Bibles and make notes.
Practice these in class with short "sermons" by the teacher.
