In Genesis 12, God promised Abraham that the world would be blessed through his descendants and in 2 Samuel 7, He told David that He would set up an everlasting kingdom through his seed. The Jews knew these promises and they looked for a Messiah who could meet these conditions. Matthew began his gospel to the Jews with the records that proved Jesus was the Son of Abraham, the Son of David.
