Daniel was taken from his home in Judah to live as a captive in Babylon. He and his friends stood out from the rest of the captives by refusing to eat the unclean foods the king expected them to eat. Daniel’s good character and his God-given ability to interpret dreams earned him the status of being second-in-the-kingdom to multiple kings. However, those abilities also earned him the jealousy of others who wished to have the respect and position Daniel had. So his enemies devised a plan to trap Daniel– a plan which played out in the Biblical account of the lions’ den.
