We are citizens of the United States. We are citizens of the church. That means we have two laws that govern our lives. How do we know which law to follow?
This easy to use visual illustrates three areas in which human government has made laws, but God did not make laws (sitting in car seats, "don’t pick the flowers” and stop at red lights); two ways God made laws but human government did not (what kind of friends you should have, attending worship); and two ways that BOTH have made laws (free speech vs. pure speech, gay marriage vs. biblical marriage). When human government makes laws that God has not addressed specifically, we are to follow His general law to obey the government (Rom. 13). But when human government makes laws that disagree with God’s laws, we are to follow God’s laws.
